CLERK AND LIBRARIAN.

Sir, —I noticed by a report in Thursday’s Heraiji, that at the last meeting of the Borough Council the clerk made a charge against the librarian and custodian of using obsene language to him (the clerk), and that the Council passed a resolution calling upon the librarian to apologise to the clerk. Do you think, sir, it is a fair thing to pass sentence on a man before hearing his side of the question ? I don’t! Tha domineering style of some people is sufficient in itself to create a breach of the peace. Granted that the librarian did use swearwords to his brother-servant, I think the least the Council should have done, under the circumstances, was to have called the other fellow in and got his explanation. I don’t wish to condone the librarian’s conduct, but I believe in fair play. Hoping I am not taking up too much of your valuable space.—Yours etc., Justice.
