A HUMAN INFERNAL MACHINE.
According to the Novoe Vremya, a recentl}' arrested group of Terrorists are accused, among other things, of a remarkable plan to blow up the St. Petersburg gendarmerie department. As it is most difficult to enter that department, the plotters decided that one of them, chosen by lot, should dress in the uniform of a gendarme officer. This uniform was thickly wadded with byroxylene, the chosen man’s body was to be swathed with the same stuff, and the pockets of the uniform and other possible hiding places were to be filled with dynamite. The doomed man was to carry a small pocket electric battery, enabling him to ignite the explosives. Arrived in the gendarme department, this living infernal machine only needed to press the button to blow himself and all the building to atoms. The plan was not realised because the gang was arrested before everything was ready. The wadded uniform, however, will be produced in court. The tailor who made this unique garment has also been arrested.
