POLITICAL NOTES.
The following are a few items from the B—l Parliamentary paper, dealing with the public accounts for the year 1906 —1907, March 31st; —Expenses attending representation of New Zealand (Sir Joseph Ward) at the Postal Conference in Rome, £3173 us 8d; cost of a portrait of the late Premier, £lO6 is 6d ; expenses in connection with the entertainment of guests, etc., at the recent Exhibition at Christchurch, £IOO3 17s 2d ; (Who were they?); part expenses in connection with the burial of the late Premier, £1023 17s 2d; Expenses incurred during the late Premier’s last visit to Australia, £591 3s 7d; National Memorial to the late Right Hon. R. J. Seddon (£1 for £x subsidy up to £15,000). £The total amount of expenditure for miscellaneous services for the year was £69,892 14s 7d, and among the items are payments which, if full particulars could be published, would make the general public seream with indignation ! Verily, we live in a great country !
