V. MOUTOA. The opening match of the season was played } r esterday on Victoria Park, in perfect weather, between teams . representing the senior clubs of Foxton and Moutoa. The average play on both sides was fairly good, being about up to the usual form of country teams at the beginning of the season. The fielding was not up to the mark by any means, but this ffliight in some measure be accounted for by the condition of the ground, although the Ground Committee had been at work mowing down the long grass for quite half an hour pirior to the commencement of the game ! For the visitors the bowling of O, H. Cleljind was most effective, and for fhe home team that of B, Nalson. . In these two bowlers, who are both newcomers to the district, their respective clubs have secured' a very decided addition to their strength. The most successful batsmen were Redgrave and O. H. Cleland (Moutoa), Nye, Watson, Nalson, and Rand 'Foxton). The match resulted in a win for Foxton, on the first innings, by the narrow margin of three runs. Hearty cheers for each other, for the umpires—Messrs Rough and Wood, and for the scorer—Mr A. E. Shadbolt, brought to a close what proved to be, somewhat contrary to expectation, a most enjoyable game. Appended are the scores: — Foxton, Ist innings.—Whibley 8, Cook 4, Nalson o, Martin 2, Nye 6, Rand 5, Watson 1, Dobson 0, Ashmore 1, Gardner o, Robin3, extras B—total8 —total 38.
