BALL.
The plain and fancy dress ball, held under the auspices of the Valetta Quadrille Assembly, took place in the Public Hall last night and was a most successful social function. The floor was in good order and the music supplied by Messrs Ennis (cornet) and Cargill (piano) was excelleirt. Mr R. Haydock made a very efficient M,C. Some of the costumes were very pretty and others ludicrous. The antics of the clown and gorgeous coloured gentlemen created much amusement. The following are a few of the characters represented :
Miss King was adjudged the winner of the first prize for the best fancy dress being attired as Queen of Hearts, Mrs Wright, Manawatu Herald, Miss Moodie, Clowness, Miss Hausen, Queen of Stars, Miss M. King, Irish Washerwoman, Miss Walls, Red, White and Blue, Miss Jessen, Butterfly, Miss Williams, Snow, Miss Osboldstoue, Nurse, Miss Dobson, Cupid, Miss V. Wall, Japanesse lady, Mrs Haydock, Red, White and Blue, Mrs H. Young, Spanish Dancer, Mrs McKegney, Starlight, Messrs B. Shaddolt, Night and Day, B. Watson, Bro. Smut, Harris, Soldier, A. E. Shadbolt, cricketer, Bennett, Clown, Eevett, Dummy, Hadeu, Cricketer.
The committee will continue the dances weekly in the Masonic Hall.
