EDUCATION BOARD.
Ordinary Meeting. By Telegraph—Special to Herald. Wanganui, This Day, The ordinary meeting of the above was held last night. Present: Messrs F. Pirani (chairman), J. H. Bennett, W.. C. Cargill, E. Dickson, A. Fraser, F, Purnell, F. M. Spurdle. Appointments :' Manutahi, Miss Irons: Hawera, Miss Black; Mangatoki, Miss Thompson. The resignation of Mr N. G. Armstrong, of the Wanganui District High School, was accepted. Leave of absence was granted to the following teachers: D. D. Henderson, M. Scott, E. Kerrick, D. E. Hutton, W. J. Andrew, F. M. Battes, B. Slipper, and M. Bremand.
A deputation waited on the Board to solicit a contribution to the funds of the Wanganui Public Museum. The deputation stated that they wished to secure the services of Mr Sparks, who, for 15 years had been connected with the Canterbury Museum, and urged the educational value of the institution to the whole of the Wanganui district. After discussion, it was resolved: That the Board has no power to make a grant.
Letters were received from don and Rongotea in reference to \ the establishment of District High \
School but were held over till next meeting. The Foxton Headmaster and Schools Committee wrote in respect of several matters in connection with the new residence. The Chairman stated his intention of visiting Foxton at an early date and the matter was left in his hands to report upon.
It was resolved that the Chairman and Messrs Guthrie, Purnell and the chief Inspector draw up fresh regulations and submit same to the Board meeting in November. It was decided to make application to the Department for the cost of sewerage at Palmerston, Feilding and Halcombe.
