SPORTING.

Rangitikei Racing. By Probable. For once in a while, the weather continued fine for racing at Bulls last Wednesday, though a couple f of heavy showers on Thursday / marred the pleasure of the outin S- T The Stake, one of Hon, J. D. Ormond’s cast-offs, annexed the open Flying in a rather easy fashion from a few good performers, but the way in which he won brought forth distinct disapproval, as a result of which an enquiry is to be held, when it is to be hoped facts will be elucidated, and offenders (if any) dealt with to the full extent. Again, in the Telegraph second day, it was common talk in the paddock that there were only two triers in the bunch, though after the event all sorts of rumours were afloat as to the cause of Lord Soult’s downfall. The speedy cripple had a big load of weight, and it is quite feasible he was defeated on that score, though his party, who lost a lot of money on the son of Soult, were not at all satisfied with his display. And they should know. Possibly future facing events will throw some light bn the affair. Present writer has witnessed some apparently warm things in racing permitted by the Bulls Racing Club, and it behoves them to deal with the matters before them with a firm hand, and mete out just punishment, if necessary, without respect to personage. Otherwise, the Bulls Club will find itself doomed to a speedy death through its own weak-heartedness. Lady Disdain and Waitapu were local horses to show out prominently in their races, though Revialle was a disappointment to many, and finished somewhere in the rearguard.' Old Lass-o’-Gowrie defeated Lord Soult for second place in the Telegraph ; it looks as if Alf. Wright will get a race out of the old mare before

long. Toatuhi got into a wire fence the other morning, and ripped himself somewhat, though it may not interfere greatly with his racing engagements. ' I learned from Andrew Laing at Bulls that his colt Glengowrie is making a good recovery, and that he may race at Wanganui. Fulminator, by N.Z. Cup winner, Fulmen. defeated two hot pots second day at Bulls in Kareroaand Muskerry. The winner won fairly easy, and should add considerably to his winning account before the season is far advanced.

Jauella, who won a steeple at Wanganui Hunt meeting last month, was unlucky in not getting the big stake and dividend at Bulls. This nag finished first, but bis rider failed to carry out the rules of racing to the letter and weigh in his breastplate, hence the stake went to Rangitoto. By the way, Connop lost the stake a few years ago, through his representative, who won, going inside a post. However, he is even now. Parapataehi, winner of Hack Hurdles, has a fair amount of pace, also Mauira, second day winner, though neither are yet adepts at jumping game. Sylvan Park ran a great race to Koran; the former should score shortly. <St. Claimer is very well, and shbuld win at Wanganui.
