ATTEMPTED SUICIDE AT SHANNON.

Constable Woods received word from Shannon this morning that a man had committed suicide by shooting himself. On making further inquiry he ascertained that a man named Christensen, single, living in a whare in the locality mentioned with a fellow countryman, had shot himself in the head with a pea rifle. Circumstances point to the fact that the attempt was of a determined nature, but did not end fatally 7. The unfortunate man was recently discharged from the mental hospital at Porirua. No reason is assigned for the deed.

Christensen was conveyed to the District Hospital at Palmerston by the mail train. His condition is critical.
