HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.

The promoters of the Foxton Horticultural, Floral, Industrial and Poultry Society are to be congratulated upon the measure of success and encouragement which is', attending their efforts. When the affair- was first mooted certain pessimists, pooh-poohed the idea. Unfortunately Foxton possesses i too many of these heart-breakers. Whatever movement is afoot for the advancement of the town and the education of its people is opposed by a certain class who too long have stemmed the tide of progress. However, Foxton is no longer going to lag behind the times. The Secretary of the above Society has already received some very . encouraging letters from prominent townsmen and also from the member for the district, wishing.the Society prosperity and offering practical support. The annual exhibition of cereals, fruit, flowers, home industries, etc., encourages and stimulates the people to • beautifj 7 their residences with choice flowers, it encourages the cultivation of fruit and vegetables, it educates the people in the poultry industry and in a hundred and one ways is of immense value to the residents. We hope the promoters will not be discouraged by the remarks of the pessimists but that success will crown their efforts.
