The Manawatu Herald. THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 12, 1907 THE STRAYING NUISANCE.

Certain residents have recently called upon us with a grievance. They complain that horses and cattle are allowed to roam at large during the stilly night. Some cattle are so intelligent, one resident informed us, that they are able to open and shut gates. Flower and kitchen gardens have been trampled down. Further, the animals have a habit of rubbing their backs against the side of the house, chewing the cud and making other noises which wake up the household. The infuriated hubby is caused much inconvenience by rushing into thecold night- air clad in scanty raiment, to shoo the innocent beasts off the premises. Some intelligent animals close the gates when they leave the premises in the early morning ! We have been asked to publicly call attention to the cattle straying nuisance in order that offenders may keep their cattle within bounds. We hope this- warning may save further trouble.
