RETURNS WANTED.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, through Mr R. McKenzie, is asking for an interesting return showing (x) the names of all females employed in the several Government departments, (2) the departments in which they are now employed, (3) the date of appointment, (4) length of service, (5) whether ( they have passed the senior or junior civil service examination, and (6) salary proposed to be paid for the current financial year. Mr James Allen is asking for a return showing particulars of the following expenditures; daily allowance to employees receiving not' more than 10s a day, also allowances for Sunday duty and special services, /45- 000 J ( 2 ) New Zealand International Exhibition, £7500 ; (3) payments under the Workers’ Compensation for Accidents Act, 1900, £s°°; anc | (4) compensation toT. Carmichael for extras in connection with building ot departmental offices Mr Fisher is asking for the names, salaries and length of service of the temporary hands employed in the Government Printing Office. For some years past a great deal of Government patronage has gone to certain legal firms. Mr Symes is inquiring into the matter. He wants a return showing what bills have bean drafted outside the Crown Law Draftsman’s department since 1900, by whom drafted, and the amount paid for each bill.
