Lord Stathcona, High Commissioner for Canada, interviewed on his return to London from the Dominion, stated that a steamship company had made a definite offer to provide a fast Atlantic service—as part of the “ All-Red ” scheme —for a subsidy of half a million sterling per annum. Canada was prepared to find half ot this amount.
There is a great outcry in the Radical press against the Government of India selecting Mr Cottes, the Daily Mail’s Simla correspondent, to collect daily and supply officials of India with Indian news. The service will cost ,£lO6 monthly. New York, September 5. Glass, Vice-President of the Pacific States Telephone Company, has been sentenced at San Francisco to five years’ imprisonment for bribing Supervisor Lonegan to vote against granting a concession to the Home Telephone Company.
