San Francisco, September 3. The Labour Day parade here ended in a riot. Attacks were made by labour unionists on street cars for breaking the procession, and the car drivers shot two of those taking part in the demonstration. London, September 3. Mr Avebury Bridbrooke, late Chiet Registrar of Friendly Societies, in a letter to “ The Times,” propounds a scheme for providing old age pensions on a contributory basis, partly using friendly societies’ funds, supplemented by a Government grant. Sydney, September 3. A railway employee named Walker, of Auckland, was charged at the Police Court to-day with alleged theft and wife-desertion. He was remanded to Auckland. Capetown, Septemper. A troop of Royal Engineers, stationed in Oraugia, are reported to have mutinied. The men allege that they have been subjected to inconsiderate treatment by their officers. It is stated that this is the third incident of the kind within sixmonths.
