FOXTON HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.
Despite the short notice and other meetings on Tuesday nighty there was a very representative . gathering of ladies and gentlemen in Mr Rae-Howard’s office to discuss the advisability of forming a Horticultural and Industrial. A. Society in Foxton. Mr F. Woods was voted to the chair. After a desultory discussion, it was unanimously resolved to form a society in Foxton to be called “ the Foxton Horticultural, Floral, Industrial. and Poultry Society,” and to hold shows at least once a yearSeveral speakers mentioned that similar societies were very flourishing institutions in towns much less pretensious than Foxton. The election of officers then took place, and the following were elected, those absent subject to their consent : Patrons: Messrs J. Stevens, M.H.R., Dr. Mandl, F. W. Frankland, P. j. Hennessy, W. It was resolved to hold over the drawing up of rules to enable some of those present to procure copies of rules and catalogues from Secretaries of societies in other centres. • It was decided to hold a further meeting on Wednesday evening next, the 4th September. The usual votes of thanks concluded the meeting.
