Hawera, August 18. A Native named James Haddon, 36 years of age, who wilfully shot himself in the stomach on Fridaj r evening, died this morning. Auckland, August 18. The steamer Navua, which ar.rived from the Islands yesterday, brought news of a feared shipping catastrophe in the Tongan Group. The trading schooner Scharlotte, owned and sailed by Captain A. W. Gordon Mackay, but formerly known as the “ Copra King,” left Tonga on July 12th for Niuafoon, a two da3 T s’ journey, and has not b?en heard of since, although she was three weeks at sea when the Navua visited the Group. The Scharlotte had sixty natives on board for Niuafoon, and it is believed all were lost, including the captain, as no tidings of either boat or her living freight had been received up to the time the Navua left for Auckland, six days' ago. Auckland, August 19.
At the Supreme Court, Charles William Utting, a young man petitioned for a dissolution of his marriage with Lily Utting, on the ground of her adultery with a Chinaman, named Willie Wah Hung, who was coupled as corespondent. There was no appearance of respondent or co-re-spondent. Charles Utting said he was married on March 30th, 1904, and about a year later he found that his wife had misconducted herself. He condoned the offence and took her back, but subsequently learned that his wife was living at Hamilton and in Auckland with co-respondent. The evidence supported these allegations, and Mr Justice Denniston ordered a decree nisi, with costs against co-respondent.
