CYCLE ROAD RACE.
—*- ■ Bathurst to Sydney. Sydney, August xy. The annual road race from Bathurst to Sydney took place in fine weather. The roads were excellent condition, but much indignation is expressed at the action of some miscreant in thickly strewing tacks on the road between Bathurst and Bowenfels, causing punctures in about forty competitors’ machines, and in some instances over a hundred tacks were removed from the tyres. Ninety-five competitors started, and the following was the result: — F. Aplin (4omin.j x A. Aplin (40mm.) 2 Walcott (.somin.) 3 Targe crowds lined the route at various interesting stages. Tarcombe, last year’s winner of this race, was among the contestants, but had the misfortune to break his crank before covering half the distance. The placed division got together in front before reaching Paramatta, and fought out a great finish, F. Aplin crossing the line a couple of lengths in front of A. Aplin, who was a similar distance ahead of Walcott. The time (riding) occupied by the winner was 7 hrs 59min, by A. Aplin 7 hrs 59mm o 2-ssec, and by Walcott Bhrs gmin 36 sec. G. Horder, from scratch, finished fourth, and made the shortest time, viz., yhrs 35mm 45sec.
