‘Auckland, July 31

At the Police Court to-day, Alfred Michelly, charged with having stolen and fraudulently.converted to his own use 5s 3d and belonging to Wingate and Co., was remanded till Tuesday. Accused came from Australia about thirteen years ago. He left the emplo} r ment of Wingate and Co. three months ago, the reasons being entirely unconnected with the charges now preferred against him.

Michelly has signed a confession admitting embezzling the sum of ,£IO4B 8s 8d from Wingate and Co.

The books are still being examined, and it is authoritatively stated that there are further defalcations which will amount to a very large sum.

Very interesting developments are also promised in connection with Michelly’s private life.
