THE UNWRITTEN LAW.
American Murder Trial.
New York, July 1
A Virginian jury acquitted exJudge Poving for killing Theodore Estes last April. Accused killed Estes after accused’s daughter had declared that Estes had drugged and assaulted her.
Ex- Judge Poving’s daughter was taken for a drive by Theodore Estes. On returning to her home the young woman informed her father that Estes had drugged and violated her. Poving immediately went to Estes’s residence, shot the young man dead, and surrendered to the police, being at once released on bail. Two brothers of Estes declared that if Poving were acquitted they would kill him. The principals in the affair were wealthy Virginian settlers.
