During the month of June, seven births, one marriage and four deaths were registered at the local office.
Owing to unforseen circumstances, the adjourned meeting of the Moutoa settlers which was to have taken place on Friday evening next, has been postponed to Tuesday, 9th inst. Mr Simms, Government Orchard Inspector, paid a visit to Foxton yesterday and secured a large number of codlin moth grubs to provide food for the codlin moth parasites. Our representative called on Mr A. Laing in his new home at Woodville the other day, and the boniface of the Masonic reported himself well pleased with business prospects.
At the local Registry Office this morning, Mr Ernest A. Newsnn, officer in charge of Kapiti Island, was united in matrimony to Miss Flora Evangeline de Ridder, daughter of Mr F. de Ridder, of Foxton.
The presence of dynamite in household coal caused an explosion in the kitchen fire at the residence of Mr John Evans, at Devonport, Auckland. Mrs Evans put a shovelful of coal on the fire, and immediately there was a terrific explosion. The stove was smashed, pieces flying in all directions. Mrs Evans was struck on the left arm and legs and slightly burned. Subsequent examination discovered a box containing dynamite caps among the coal and in the coal shed.
The Farmer reports a littte improvement in the condition of Mr F. Barratt, who was injured last Monday week by an explosion of acetylene gas at his residence at Levin. For days he was totally unconscious, but on Saturday he spoke a word or two with difficulty, and then relapsed into his former state. To-day there is a slight improvement, which it is hoped will continue.

The House of Representatives will resume at 7.30 this evening, when the Address-in Reply will be immediately proceeded with. Mr T, C. Bragge, the champion professional billiard player, will visit Foxton next Saturday and play at the Club in Clyde street. See advt.
The public meeting convened by the Mayor to discuss the establishment of a technical school for Foxton will take place in the Public Hall on Thursday night, not the Masonic Hall as previously arranged. The Valeta Quadrille Assembly held a very successful long night dance in the Masonic Hall last night. The music was supplied by Mrs F. Walls. Mr Bennett officiated asM.C. The next dance of the series will be held on Monday next.
The reason for giving the Hon. W. Hall-Joues leave of absence and postponing the appointment of a new Minister is understood to be a desire to avoid complications in the party, as naturally there are many claimants for the position. Mr Hall-Jones is not in the least likely to resume his duties. Mr Hall-Jones and Mrs Hall-Jones, accompanied by Mr Schmidt, as secretary, will leave for England by the Kaipara, which is to sail from Eyttelton for London on July Bth. Mr Hall-Jones will be absent about six months, and will probably visit Japan before he returns to New Zealand.
