The Ascot Gold Cup, valued at 500 guineas, which was being exhibited behind the grandstand at Ascot in charge of the maker’s representative, and a constable, was stolen while their attention was momentarily diverted, presumably by an accomplice of the thief.
The cruiser Psyche (2135 tons) and Pioneer (2207 tons), are shortly to be recommissioned at Singapore for the Australian station. They will also convey to Sydney a new crew for the cruiser Pyramus. The stern shaft of the torpedo boat No. 99 sank off Berry Head, Devonshire. The torpedo gunboat Dryad rescued the crew. Teheran, June 20.
Salar ed Dowleh, the younger brother of the Shah, who recently led an unsuccessful revolt, has taken refuge in the British Consulate at Kermanshah, in Persian Turkestan, and has asked for guarantees for the safety of himself and family. -
