CHARLES VERNER COMPANY.
Monday Night. The above company, under the* direction of Mr Charles Verner, will appear in the Public Hall, Foxton, on Monday evening next, when they will produce that most charming Irish patriotic drama, “ Shamus O’Brien,” a play full of wit and humour. Mr Charles Verner will play the part of Shamus O’Brien—a part in which he will dispel the gloom from the saddest heart —and in addition he will sing some good old Irish songs. This company is one of the strongest combinations that has ever toured the Provincial towns of New Zealand, having just completed a 10 weeks’ season in Wellington, where thev played to large and enthusiastic audiences. Mr Verner holds the highest recommendations from the leading papers of the colonies. His repetroire is one of the most extensive of any company on tour, and the flattering press opinions bestowed on him by the metropolitan papers are a sufficient guarantee that he is one of the best Irish character actors that has ever visited Foxton. Mr Charles Verner’s first introduction to the colonies was under the management of J. C. Williamson, and latterly under engagement to the MacMahon Company. Mr Verner is undertaking a small tour of the Wellington provinces, prior to opening in Auckland, where an extended season has been arranged for. As the company’s season here is limited to two nights only, the public of Foxton should not miss the opportunity of seeing their productions. Mr Verner will be supported by a company of 12 specially selected artists. The drama will be staged in its entirety, new scenery having been painted for the productions in the small towns. Therefore, we anticipate a good house for this company, the prices being within the reach of all.
