A PECULIAR CASE.
Man in the wrong House. Auckland, June 19. A resident of Alfred street, Onehunga, was awakened this morning between 5 and 6 o’clock by hearing a noise in his kitchen, and on grasping a revolver and proceeding to investigate he found a strange man in the house. On the intruder being asked his business he replied, “Surely a man can get a feed in his house.” It is alleged that the stranger immediately closed with his questioner. A desperate struggle ensued, dming which chairs were broken and tables overturned, but eventually the stranger was over powered. Constable McGlone was sent for and the intruder was arrested.
From enquiries made it appears that the man had sat some time on the verandah, and had then got into the house, probably by a door not securely fastened. The contention is that a mistake was made in getting into the wrong house, as nothing in the shape of burglary was attempted, and the arrested party had only been living in the district about a fortnight. The matter was brought up at the Onehunga Police Court this morning, but the accused was too ill to appear, and the case was adjourned.
