Monthly Meeting. Local Headmaster Commended by by Board. By Tclojimpli --Spiriiil to Tli'mld. Wanganui, This Day. The above meeting was held yesterday afternoon. Present: — Messrs Pirani (Chairnj.au), Fraser, Dixon, Purnell, Carson, and Spurdle. Resignations : —A. Hamdon, Ohingaiti; P. Powell, Stoney Creek ; P. McKenzie, Taikorea ; H. H. Stevens, St. Johns. Appointments : —Miss Ingpen, Mataroa ; Mrs Williams, Mokoia ; Miss Mahony, Mangaweka ; Miss Hill, Auroa; Wm. Lyall, Oroua Bridge; and J. Belton, Mangawhero. L,eave of absence was granted as follows :—G. Kendall, three months; F. Bauckham, three weeks ; J. Fergusson, six weeks; C, E. Barry, two weeks; E. H. Rogers, one month ; J. S. Strack and L. Spratt, ten days ; E. Mahony, four days ; S. Strachan, three months ; E. J. McDonald, ten days. The winter school starts in the technical school on Monday, 24th June. The Board schools are to devote Arbor Day entirely to tree-planting and the improvement of the school grounds, Mr Amos reports that the technical classes are now being conducted in the Southern District at Feilding, Ashhurst, Halcombe, Bunnythorpe, Rongotea, Colyton and are to start shortly at Pohangina and Apiti. It was moved by Mr Fraser that a letter of commendation be sent to Mr Adams of the Foxton school for the manner in which he carried out the Empire Day celebrations. The Education Department made a grant of ,£550 for a two-roomed school at Himatangi, and a grant of £l lO for additions to the Taikorea school. Rongotea’s application for removal of gallery was referred to the Building Committee. The following schools were reported closed on account of sickness : Bulls, Stanway, Taihape, Paukiore, Dunolly and Ouhakura. On account of the impassible roads, Mr Fraser moved that application be made to the Education Department for a grant for drainage at the Campbell-street school. A pound for pound subsidy was granted to Normanby and Opaku School Committees for fencing.
