Auckland .June 17. There was a heavy frost in the country, the suburban districts and Auckland city yesterday morning. In low-lying places water was frozen to a depth of about liin. The weather to-day was very clear and dry. Christchurch, June 17. Snow still lies in the shadows, and there has been more or less frost since it fell. There was a heavy frost yesterday morning, leaving thick ice on the pools, and again this morning. Skaters are getting ready foi probable sport on the rivers immediately south. Nelson, June 17. Further particulars concerning the fire on the oil launch and the drowning of three Maoris show that the fire was caused through a lantern being dropped. Rene Tewhetu pluckily endeavoured to extinguish the flames with his coat. Mohane fell overboard while hastening to assist, and some of the others jumped overboard. Aperahama Tewhetu was drowneu while trying to save his wife and their little son. Mohi was also drowned, as well as Mrs Renata, an elderly woman. There were eleven persons in the launch.
