THE SANATORIUM.
The local Chamber of Commerce has notified the Marine Department that Pilot Hall is able to forward the Marine Department the name of the person or persons who fired the lupins and ornamental trees at the Sanatorium. We don’t know what action the Department will take in the matter. After the expenditure of money and labour by tree planting for the purpose of beautifying this popular health resort and binding the sand drift—that unthinking persons should undo what has been done, by firing the lupins, is most reprehensible. We have no doubt but that this wanton destruction is punishable by law if the vandals are brought to book. Further, a grant of £2OO has been promised for tree planting at the seaside. How can we expect this promise to be fulfilled if such acts of vandalism are allowed to go unpunished ? We would suggest to the Marine Department that Pilot Hall be authorised to take steps to prosecute any person who wilfully causes destruction to the plantations at Wairangi Sanatorium.
