POLICE COURT.
A sitting of the local Police Court was held this morning before Messrs Alf. Fraser and P. Hennessy, J’s.P. 'Ji Thomas Connolly was charged the police with refusing to quit licensed premises (Whyte’s Hotel) when ordered to do so by the licensee, Mr W. J. White, on ■ Saturday last. Accused did not answer to his bail. W. J. White, licensee of Whyte’s Hotel, deposed that accused came into the hotel and commenced to pick a quarrel with a resident. Accused left the premises, but shortly after returned and was quarrelsome, and picked up and drank another man’s liquor, and threw the butt of a cigar at another man. Witness then thought it was time to eject him. Was in the act of doing so when the police arrived. /Constable Woods said the accused, although under the influence of liquor, was not drunk. He locked him up. Accused was convicted and fined 20s, in default seven days. Thomas Haywood was charged by the police with helpless drunkenness on Sunday last. Accused pleaded guilty, and was convicted and fined ss.
