BEGGARED FOR LOVE.
Countess Marries a Gipsy. Budapest, May 8. The father of the Countess Fastetica has disinherited her for marrying a gipsy violinist and has also revoked his gift to her of a house in Budapest worth ,£lo,ooo* leaving the Countess penniless. [This message refers to a very romantic episode. The full name of the lady is Countess Vilraa Festetica, daughter of a Hungarian magnate. She is 20 years of age, and very beautiful and was a remarkable figure in social circles at Vienna and Budapest. She was betrothed to Count Sigmund Spretti. a distinguished Hungarian nobleman. With her betrothed and her mother she paid a visit to Munich a few months ago, and the Count took her to a cafe chantant. Here she saw RudiNyari, a handsome and clever gipsy violinist, about 25 years of age. She promptly fell in love with him, as in fact did many other ladies. The young man was pursued by fair admirers. The Countess, however, contrived to become acquainted with him, and finally in : March last married him at a Hungarian registry office. When her parents became aware of her infatuation they attempted to buy off Rudi; offering him ,£IO,OOO to refuse to marry her. This he declined, and the Countess settled upon him a house given her by her father. The gift from the father was apparently revocable, and has been taken from the gipsy bridegroom, and the bride disinherited. Rudi’s violin will now have to provide the means of subsistence for himself and wife, and probably the gilt will soon wear off the romance.]
