DOINGS IN HIGH LIFE.
Sydney, May 9. Sir Robert Hartwell, who was mentioned in a cablegram from London in reference to Lieutenant Chamberlain’s divorce case, stayed for several months at a leading hotel in Sydney with a companion described as “ Lady Hartwell.” This was prior to Sir Robert Hartwell making a cruise in the schooner Stanley, when the Stanley rescued the crew of the wrecked barque Anoasona from Middleton Reef. The Stanley is now in Sydney.
Early in April, Engineer-Lieu-tenant E. W. Chamberlain applied for a divorce, on the ground of his wife’s adultery with Sir Brodrick Hartwell 1 , with whom she eloped to Australia- The judge was satisfied with the evidence of adultery, and adjourned the case for proof of marriage. Lieutenant Chamberlain has this week been granted a decree nisi.
