MOUTOA NOTES.
Own Correspondent. From a social point of view Mautoa has been fairly lively lately. Two very enjoyable dances have already taken place in the barn kindly lent by Mr Gardiner, and another is to be held during this week. There is some talk here of a ladies’ hockey club being formed, but whether such becomes fact, depends on the formation of a similar club in Foxton. During the recent flood a resident, being very anxious to get home, waded through the water with his bicycle, trusting to the tyres being inflated with air to support him. Unfortunately, the bike sank, compressed air and all, and it was only with difficulty that the trusting one rescued himself. He succeeded, however, in recovering his bike about a week afterwards, little the worse for its immersion.
