STREET LIGHTING.
At last night's Council meeting the lamplighter waited on the Council and explained why the lighting had not been done as it should have been. For a considerable time he had been seriously indisposed and the work had been Afctt to his little boys. He promised that in future his duties would be faithfully carried out. He complained -that boys had thrown stones at the lamps and broken some of them, and that certain repairs were required. The . Mayor instructed him to have these matters attended to. . Cr. Baker proposed, and U. •Austin seconded, that Mr Walls be advised that the Council approyes of his promises to carry out his duties as lamplighter In a thorough Way in future, but will deduct the grant made on one lamp for : , three months from the 12th Janu-
