An Appreciation of Mayor
Gower.
At last night’s Borough Council meeting Cr Moore moved and Cr •Baker seconded the following ' resolution: —
That this Council at this its . , last meeting place on . record , ~ its high appreciation of the manner in which His Wor- , ship, Mr B. G. Gower, has fulfilled the position of Mayor ,of the Borough during the term of office of the present- Council, for the . courteous and able manner in which he has presided over all meetings, his able successful and the invariably dose and ' unselfish attention given by him to the business of the (Council, and to all matters brought under his notice affecting the interests of the . townthat this Council further recognises that Mr Gower’s attention to the interests of the Borough v ,-. has involved considerable -.-j/.sacrifice of his .time,/and ,'has-.beeu,done entirely without regard for his private interests, and trusts that those.of the present Council who may Haye the honour . of sitting-op the next C0un- ....... cil may again have the pleasure of conducting, the Borough business with Mr Gower as the official head.
In speaking to the resolution Cr Moore said Councillors differed in many points, but that he was sure that .all would agree that they were pleased to, know-that Mr Glower Had consented to stand again for the Mayoralty. He paid a tribute to the unselfish attention displayed by His Worship in all matters appertaining' to the welfare of the Borough and ' the good feeling which had existed between himself and Councillors. Cr Baker endorsed Cr. Moore’s remarks, and said Mr Gower was the right man in the right place. Cf Frankland followed in similar strain and referred to the numer-ously-signed petition from the burgesses. Cr Shadbolt jokingly remarked that he was surprised that Cr Moore should say so many nice things about the Mayor when he knew, such a good man in himself was to oppose Mr Gower at the poll. . • The resolution was put and carried, unanimously.
The Mayor sincerely thanked Councillors for his remarks, and hoped;,if.'again elected that the sqthe good fejeling would He then resumed his .seat amidst ah outburst of applause.
