BREACHES OF SHOP ASSISTANTS’ ACT.
Palmerston Cycle Dealers
Fined.
By Telegraph—Special to Herald.
Palmerston, This Day.
At the S.M. Court this morning before Mr A. D. Thompson, S.M., Charles Adams, manager for the local branch of the Star Cycle Co., pleaded guilty to having, on February 23rd, employed a shop assistant, William Hebden, later than half an hour after the prescribed time of closing. Accused said he was away at the time or it never would have happened. He was fined 20s, plus costs amounting to £1 xos. A similar charge was preferred against Messrs Hyslop, manager for Messrs Reynolds and Co. in respect to an assistant named H. Spillar. The charge was dismissed on the grounds that Hyslop was not, at the time the actual occupier of the premises, and that Spillar was acting-manager and not an assistant.
