“ Born Dead Slow ”

The monthly meeting of the above Board was held last night. Present: —Messrs Pirani (chairman), Bennett, Carson, Dixon, Fraser, Purnell and Smith. Leave of absence was granted Messrs Guthrie and Spurdle.
Cash statements :—General Account credit, 18s gd; Maintenance Account, libraries, ,£9lB 17s, credit ,£394 7s 6d, debit 9s 6d.

Blockridge, Ruahine. Appointments—Miss Levin, Komako; E. H. Wallace, Sanson ; .Miss Pitt, Hiwinui; W. R. Williams, Coal Creek ; Miss Walton, Lytton St; Miss Ross, Kelvin Grove; Miss Wilson and Miss Prichard, Taihape; Miss West, Glen Oroua ; Miss Holloy, Linton; E. Everish, Waitohi; Miss Starte, Castlecliff; Miss Powell, Waiheke ; Miss Lash, Bunnythorpe ; Miss Griffiths, Kaitokie; Miss Miller, Wanganui; Miss Smith, Maunui; Miss Thompson, relieving teacher at /'ioo. Aitcken, Wanganui ; Hawera and Tokarangi schools were reported closed on account of measeles.
Mr Purnell was appointed the Board’s representative on the Marton technical school committee.
The Education Department wrote for further information reschool site at Himitangi. A letter was also received from certain Himitangi residents re school site. The Chief Inspector was instructed to visit and report.
The Foxton school committee wrote asking for several supplies. Mr Fraser said he knew nothing of the letter. It was resolved that Mr Fraser inquire into and report upon same. The Secretary of the Palmerston Winter Show wrote and stated that the Committee had decided to continue the free admission of children belonging to country schools to the Winter Show.
The Education Department intimated that the Audit Department forbade any expenditure out of general fund upon new buildings. A spark of humour amongst the Board correspondence was caused by a head-master of one of the large schools reporting on the members of his staff. He said that they badly needed a change as “ they were born dead slow.”
It was decided to ask the Education Department to extend the same privileges to girls attending the Exhibition as had been granted to the cadets, and that their attendance should be recorded on the school roll.
