PALMERSTON’S BY-LAWS.

Affecting Stock-driving.

Prosecutions Withdrawn.

Auctioneers’ Threat.

Counci! Climbs Down.

[by TELEGRAPH —SPECIAL TO HERALD.] Palmerston, To-Day.

Seven informations against drovers for alleged breaches of the new Borough by-laws by driving stock along prohibited streets, were withdrawn by the Borough Council at the S.M. Court this morning, in pursuance of a resolution arrived at the other evening in response to a strong representation made by the Association of Auctioneers and Farmers’ Union.

The Borough Council recently closed a number of streets to stop the traffic and this roused the opposition on the part of those just mentioned. The auctioneers threatened to remove the yards from the town unless alterations were made.

, Farmers also complained bitterly, hence the cases being withdrawn this morning. The S.M. pointed out to drovers that they must still be careful until the by-laws are altered, as it is quite competent for any objector to lay a complaint even though the Council has decided to take no action.
