FRENCH GUNBOAT DISASTER.
The disastrous explosion which occurred on the French battleship, Jena, details of which are published elsewhere, caused a wave of sorrow to touch the hearts of the British people throughout the Empire. The deepest sympathy has been extended by the British Minister on behalf of the nation to the widows and orphans and wounded. It often happens that through such a dreadful calamity as, the one under notice, the hearts of the people, of separate nations beat closer together.
