THE MAYORALTY.

The first candidate in the field for the Mayoralty is Cr A. E. Shadbolt, who throws down the gaunt-

let in another column. It is, a laudable ambition on the part ’of any citizen to seek the honourable position of Chief Magistrate of the town. We don’t suppose for a moment that Cr Shadbolt is going to have a “ walk , over,” for there are whispers ofother ‘ ‘Richmonds’ ’ coming in the field. Anyhow, we admire Cr Shadbolt’s pluck, and we shall have more to say, of his candidature when we know what his policy is. Now, then, who is the next ?
