When the American footballers appear in the colony visitors to' Alexandra Park may hear some of ; the “ yells ” peculiar to the American colleges. Whether the Americans have a yell of their own, or will make one lor the occasion, is not known yet. The Englishmen, whose exclamations are quiet, halfthrottled,. gentlemanly, were appalled at the vigour which the’ All Blacks put into their war-cry when they swept all before them, but ';.

there is more sense in the New Zealand slogan than such yells. as these. Harvard, when victorious at football, shouts “ Rah, rah, rah, Harvard. ’ ’ Pennsylvania, again, cries, “ Hoo-rah, hoo-rah, hoo-rah, hoo-rah, Penn—syl—va—ni—A,” while the Chicago University boys yell, “ Chicago, Chicago, Chicago, Chica—go, Go it, Chica—go—it, Chica—go—it, Chica—go it, go it.” After all, “Ka mate, ka mate, ka ora, kaora,” bur New Zealand yell, takes a lot of beating.
