Grand Duke Nicholas in Danger. A Commandant Shot. Revolutionists Executed. St. Petersburg, Feb 28. A box containing a dynamite bomb was found on a railway at St. Petersburg. It is believed that the bomb indicates an attempt on the life of the Grand Duke Nicholas, who was due from the Czarskoe Selo Palace, about 15 miles south of St. Petersburg. The surmise that the placing of the bomb on the railway was designed as an attempt on the life of the Grand Duke Nicholas is officially confirmed. The criminal used a skeleton key to gain admission to the Czarskoe Selo station. He placed the bomb on the rails three minutes before the Duke’s train started. The man’s efforts were harmless as the Duke’s train was brought to. St. Petersburg by another line. The Duke returned to Czarskoe the same night. The author of the attempt on the Grand Duke’s life was a youth who wore the uniform of the Imperial Railway Engineers. He was seen escaping from the gate, and disappeared in a sleigh. On account of the attempt on the life of the Grand Duke Nicholas, the Czar will not attend the Duma. His speech will be made by proxy. The town commandant of Krinoyarsk was shot dead in a street. The assassin escaped. Seventeen persons who participated in a rising at Tukkum (a town in Courland, west of Riga) have been executed.
