Old Boys (Palmerston N.) v. Foxton. The above match was played on the Victoria Park on Saturday afternoon, and resulted in a draw, the Foxton team playing out time with the game at a very interesting stage. The game from all points was a very successful one, and the best thanks of the players are due to the ladies of Foxton, who very kindly supplied a cheering cup of afternoon tea, a work which was very much appreciated by the dry players. The fielding of the home team was very poor indeed, and in this department our reps, compared rather badly with the visitors—no less than five catches being missed from one man, the most of which were very easy chances. The bowling of the Foxton team was decidedly weak, with one exception, that being Southern, who captured five wickets for 35 runs. Warden, who captained the visitors, won the toss from Stiles, and sent Jonraan and Wakelin to the wickets, Stiles taking charge of the gloves, whilst Southern and Bowe opened the bowling. When Wakelin had scored one he was clean bowled by Southern —1 for 2—Oakley followed, and shortly after Jonman was thrown out, his score being 6 —2 for xo. Gardner followed, but his was a short innings, scoring only I—31 —3 for 12. Wardin then came and went for o—4 for 15, Wills followed, but lost Oakley, the latter’s score being 5 bowled by Southern— 5 for 19. Morgan then came and a long partnership which carried the total to 68 before a separation was effected. It was during this play that the Foxton fielding was so bad, Morgan, who scored 35, being missed repeatedly. Early in his stay he was missed by Ashmore in the slips, and before he had reached double figures he had given a chance behind the wickets. At 25 he skied one to Rough at cover point which was dropped, and in the next over Southern did not accept a rather easy one at point. Change after change at the bowling was made, but the batsmen treated them with equal disrespect. With the score at 68 Wills was bowled by Southern, his score being 21 — 6 for 68, Gould followed, but only to see Morgan caught by Rough for 35. His score was marred by several chances, but at times he hit vigorously and cleanly, 7 for 86. Cox and Gould carried the score to 88, when Gould was thrown out, 8 for 88. Jickell came next and scored 1, when Bowe clean bowled him,' the innings closing for 89* Nye and Cook opened for Foxton, Wills and Warden opening the bowling. Disaster overtook the home team early, Nye being bowled by Wills when he scored I—l1 —1 for 2. Southern followed, but neither batsmen were at home with the bowling, and Cook succumbed to Wills, his ecore being 2-2 for 5. Woods followed Southern, who knocked up two, and played carefully, but in an attempt to lift Warden to the boundary was caught by Gould in the long field—for o—3 for 6. Stiles came, but -Cook was clean bowled by Wells, his score being 2 —4 for 6. Bowe followed, and by careful play, the total of 37 was reached belore Stiles, who had completed 19, was bowled by Cox —5 for 37- Rough came, but lost Bowe, the latter being bowled by Gardner, his total being 9—6 for 38. Cunninghame was the next man, and with care the batsmen carried the total to 52, when time was called, the remaining scores being ; Rough not out 3, Cunninghame not out 2 ; total for six wickets, 52.
