FOXTON SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
Monthly Meeting.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the above was held in the Municipal Chambers on Thursday evening. Present:—Messrs A. D. Clemett (chair), Barnard, Gray, Coley and the secretary (Mr L- H. Wilson). The headmaster’s report was read by the secretary, and was a lengthy and comprehensive document. The committee stated that the report was without doubt the most businesslike ever presented to the committee, the headmaster touching on practically every point in connection with school matters. On the motion of the secretary, seconded by Mr Coley, it was decided to forward that portion ot the report dealing with improvements on to the Board for consideration, and to hold over other matters pending further information. A statement in connection with subscriptions received for school prizes, showed that £8 2s 6d had been collected for this purpose.
It was reported that Myra Wanklyn had won the first prize in the Stevens’ essay competition for girls, securing 95 points; Mabel Cook, second, 90 points; Nellie Gray, third, 85. It wat resolved to write to Mr Stevens and ask his consent to allow the boys to compete again, as the headmaster had assured the committee that greater interest would now be taken by the boys. It was decided to pay the prizes to the successful girl competitors.
The account of £6 14s for laying down pitch was passed for payment subject to the work being passed by Messrs Coley and Gray; also two other small accounts.
