LOSS OF THE LARCHMONT.
London, February i 3. Terrible details have been received of the loss of life and privations which were caused by the sinking of the steamer Larchmonfc by collision off the Atlantic coast of North America. Amid a scene of terror, as the vessel went down, ten female Salvationists, kneeling on the deck, sang “ Onward, Christian Soldiers.” The ninteen survivors were severely frostbiten, the spray coating them with ice. Thirty bodies encased in ice have been recovered on the beach and fourteen others frozen to death drifting in boats. February 14. Men and women fought fiercely for places in the Larchmont’s boats. Many were drowned. In one boat containing nine persons, seven were frozen to death, one cut his throat, and one waded ashore.
