The Manawatu Herald. THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 14, 1907 THE BEACH ROAD.

Cr Baker will have earned the thanks of a large number of people if the County Council give ear to his resolution, passed at last Monday’s Borough Council meeting, in respect to the Beach Road. In asking the County, to metal the road to high water mark, perhaps he was putting a big order before that body. At least, Crs Austin and Coley appeared to think so, but if little is asked, less is done. The County have done very little to this road and as Cr Frahkland pointed out, the road in places is positively dangerous. All who have travelled over the road in vehicles can verify this statement. In fact it has been little short of marvellous that a serious accident has not been recorded. If anything serious should happen, the County Council will probably find the costs heavier than if it set to work to put the road in repair. Warnings have been given again and again and complaints made, but still the Council has remained obdurate. Now that the Borough Council has taken a hand perhaps the County will be stirred into action.
