ANTARCTIC EXPEDITION.

London, Feb. 12th. Lieutenant Shackleton commands the British Antarctic expedition, levying in October for New Zealand. A party will be landed at the. Discovery's winter quarters, and the vessel will return to Lyttelton. Next year she picks up the explorers. While the expedition hopes to land a party at Mount Melbourne and try to reach the magnetic pole, its main object is to pursue sledging discoveries, create anjew ‘‘ farthest south ” record, and reach the geographical South Pole. It is intended to use a motor-car on suitable ice.
