SANITARY MATTERS.

At last night’s Council meeting Cr Frankland moved the notice of motion standing in his name that the motion re striking a sanitary rate and purchasing a hors.e and Cart be-rescinded. Crs Baker and Austin were of the opinion that the motion should not be rescinded. The latter said the Council should strike ■ a rate, and have the work done thoroughly. The Mayor explained the Council had given the work to the present contractor for. twelve months and they had ‘a guarantee from Messrs Ball and Wilson that the contractor would carry out the work satisfactorily. The motion tvas put and carried, Crs Austin and Baker voting against it.
