INSPECTOR OF NUISANCES.
After the Inspector of Nuisances' report had been read at last night’s Council meeting which mentioned inter alia that a resident of Har-bour-street had been asked to continue his drain to low water mark. A discussion ensued. Cr Austin stated that a drain from a residence in Main-street emptied its contents into the water channel in the main thoroughfare. Notice had been taken by the inspector of the drain in a back street, and yet he never mentioned this one. The Inspector passes the place about forty times a day. Washing mornings it was particularly noticeable. Cr Coley said the Council was only throwing money away on such a position and it was waste of time. “He wants to use a little more blue paper. He tells the people tp get handles on their buckets ind they only laugh at him."
The question of overhanging trees in Coley and Johnston streets was also referred to and it was decided to request the Inspector to summons instead of warning so often.
