The Manawatu Herald. SATURDAY, DECEMBER 29, 1906. “RING OUT THE OLD—RING IN THE NEW.”

Before another issue ot the Herald reaches our readers another mile-stone will have been passed and the year 1907 ushered in. Looking backward over the year that is slipping away we find that it has been a prosperous one for the colony—one of the best. The saddest memory perhaps was the death of the Premier. The prospects for 1907 are looming bright. For the Empire the old year was one of peace. Russia, of all the nations has suffered most —and will continue so until the people are allowed a portion of that liberty which we as British subjects enjoy. Locally, Foxton and district has never been so prosperous as now, new industries have been established and population has increased. We hope, in the coming year, that more energy will be infused into our public affairs. We heartily wish one and all a Happy New Year.
