CHAPTER OF ACCIDENTS.

Doris Evelyn McCarten, aged nine years, died iu the hospital today from burns sustained through her clothes catching fire at Otahuhu yesterday. Deceased was going to buy sweets, when her clothes became alight in the main street- It is surmised that a passer-by carelessly threw down a lighted match, Hamilton, Dec- 27. A lad named Benjamin Spence, fifteen years of age, whose parents reside at Pukete, was drowned in the Waikato river last evening. Dannevirke, Dec., 27. A station ‘hand named Ernest Morgan, aged nineteen years, was killed yesterday morning by falling from his bicycle while descending a hill near Glengarry station, owing to his losing control of the machine- At the inquest , this morning a verdict of accidental death was returned. Timaru, Dec. 27. East evening Daniel Friel, a settler belonging to the Pleasant Point district, was killed. He was standing at a corner in the Point Pleasant township, when a trap driven by a young man ran into him, death was instantaneous. Deceased leaves a large grown-up family.
