From a return prepared by the Government it is found that four companies hold absolute leases of 12,965,543 acres, and by way of mortgage 6,838,089 acres. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency is one of the companies ineluded iu the report. It holds absolutely 626,698 acres, and by way of mortgage 625,854 acres.
