Washington, Dec.. 15,

Mr C. J. Bonaparte, Secretary to the Navy, lias submitted to Congress plans lor an improved battleship of the Dreadnought type. The new ship will be of 20,000 tons, with a speed of 25 knots, and with a broadside fire 25 per aent greater than that of any vessel afloat. The cost will bo six million dollars.

An Italian Programme.

Eome, Dec. 15

Admiral Mirabello, Minister of Marine has asked the Italian Chamber to hasten ship-building operations. He urges that during 1907 the construction should be put in hand of a large and powerful battleship, and several swift 10,000-ton cruisers of great lighting strength.
