WORKERS’ COMPENSATION.
Servant Girls Included in the Scheme.
London, Dec. 6,
The Workmen’s Compensation for Accidents Bill was further considered in the House of Commons yesterday.
Mr Marks proposed an amendment so as to include domestic servants in the operation of the measure.
Mr Gladstone, the Home Secretary, who has charge of the bill, declined at first to accept the amendment, on the ground that employers would not insure domestic servants.
Several members urged the Minister to accept the amendment, and when Sir H. C Bannerman advised his colleague to adopt the proposal Mr Gladstone did so.
The announcement of the Minister’s acquiescence was received with cheers.
